Unknown MARTIN
(????-????)
This unknown MARTIN, the father of Russell MARTIN, could possibly be Russell Nage MARTIN found in the 1800 Franklin Co., GA tax list. It is possible he moved up into Tennessee before his children were born. Some clues that this man's name may have been Russell are found in the book, "Pioneers of Walden's Ridge" by Elsie Connor Adams, granddaughter of Keziah Thurman Rogers Connor Much of the book was written by Keziah's son, Thomas C. Connor. In it he states that in 1858 after the crops had been harvested, the wheat was ground into flour and "also corn had been raised in the valley and ground into meal at the mill in the valley operated by Russell Martin's widow". As my ancestor, Russell M. Martin (Anna's son) was still living in 1858, this would have to be Anna, widow of Russell Martin, the children's father.
He was married sometime before abt. 1816 to Anna ????. They had at least 6 children, all of whom were born in Tennessee:
- Russell, b. abt. 1816. (Married Mary ROGERS).
- Alexander M., b. abt. 1822. (Married Sarah "Sallie" ROGERS).
- Margaret, b. abt. 1826.
- Rebecca Caroline, b. abt. 1827. (Married Robert C. MAHAN).
- Rhoda Adeline, b. abt. 1830. (Married John MAHAN).
- William Thomas, b. abt. 1831. (Married Martha A. ????).
Given that William Thomas, the youngest child, was born about 1831, and that Anna MARTIN is living alone in 1840, it is assumed that her husband died sometime between 1831 and 1840.
Here are the records after 1840 in which Anna appears with her children:
