MENTANA_OBIT Obituary of Mentana Ann Shiver, Wife of Hampton Shiver The Quitman Free Press Quitman, Brooks County, Georgia Vol XLI No. 5 Friday, January 30, 1920 Mrs. Hamp Shiver died last Sunday Mrs. Hamp Shiver died at the home of her son, R. J. Shiver Sunday morning. She was born in Alabama and married Mr. Hamp Shiver possibly while he was living in Floyd County Georgia. Many years ago they returned to Brooks County. She was the mother of three children: Mrs Fannie McRae who died years ago, R. Jeff and W.H. Shiver. She lived a very active, useful life, and was about Eighty Seven years old. She was very domestic and found her greatest pleasure in administering to the needs of her family with her own hands, and she entertained thousands at her hospitable home where all were made to feel welcome. Such women, typical of the old antebellum days, modestly and faithfully serving their day and generation deserve the highest praise. She was a member of the Philadelphia Baptist Church which was near her home before the death of her husband. The funeral services were conducted at Philadelphia Church by her pastor E. L. Todd and her former pastor W. T. Gredin. Many old friends and relatives paid tribute by their presence and _____, and beautiful floral offerings to her memory. Every one in some way, had received some kindness from her hands.
