Elizabeth Fenton STARR
(1826-1862)

Elizabeth Fenton STARR was born on 25 Oct 1826 in Wilkes County, Georgia. She was the oldest child of John Wesley and Hannah (MILLER) STARR.

She was married on 10 Feb 1848 to James Andrew RAY in Chambers County, Alabama. To this marriage was born 7 children:

  1. David Lorenzo, b. 1849, d. 9 Sep 1902.
  2. Emma Lillius, b. 6 Sep 1851, d. 12 Aug 1912.
  3. Evalina, b. 21 Oct 1853, d. 30 Jun 1906. (Married James Wilson ARNOLD).
  4. John.
  5. Catherine Elizabeth, b. 1859, d. 31 Jan 1898.
  6. Martha Amelia.
  7. Fanny?, b. 19 May 1862 (see below).

Elizabeth F. STARR RAY passed away on 27 May 1862 in Opelika, Lee County, Alabama. Her husband wrote the following tribute in their family Bible:

"Mrs. Elizabeth Fenton Ray, consort of J. A. Ray was born the 25th day of October AD 1826, was married 10th day of February AD 1848. Lived Godly life until the 27th day of May AD 1862 1 O'clock AM at which time Providence saw fit to remove her from this to her eternal rest - having permitted her to live 35 years, 7 mos., and 2 days and made her mother of 7 lovely children, the youngest born May the 19 about one O'clock PM, prior to her death. As she lived, so she died, none knew her but to love her, free from vice and full of virtue. Her husband."

Elizabeth's husband, James Andrew RAY followed her in death on 20 Apr 1913 in Birmingham, Alabama.
