Daniel SHIVER
(abt 1795-bef 1844)

Daniel Shiver was about 1800 in Kershaw County, South Carolina, a son of Abraham and Martha SHIVER.

He was married about 1823 to Mentena SHIVER (parents unknown, but probably a first cousin). The known children of this couple are:

  1. Henrietta Naverna, b. abt 1826, d. 3 May 1874. (Married John G. McCULLERS).
  2. Jefferson Isham, b. 1828/1829, d. Sep 1881. (Married Mary Ann Catherine BURCH).
  3. James Alexander or Abraham, b. 20 May 1828/1830. d. 14 Feb 1895. (Married Mary Jane SHIVER).
  4. Louisa J., b. 1831, d. bef. 1884. (Married David Jackson DORRIS or DORRIES).
  5. Mentena Ann, b. abt. 1833, d. 25 Jan 1920. (Married Hampton SHIVER).

Know that the dates of birth above are generally estimated based on given ages in census records, or in some cases, birth dates from death records or headstones. They may or may not be completely accurate, and on some of them you can see that there is some discrepancy as to the year of birth.

Daniel died in 1833, according to the James & Polly Shiver Bible, and Mentena followed him in death a short 2 years later in 1835. Their burial location is unknown at this time. The two younger girls are seen living with their uncle Elijah and aunt Nancy in Dale County, Alabama in the 1850 census. Whether they had lived there since their parents' death is unknown.
