posted by Anna L. Martin on June 15, 2000
On the page of Crawford County, Illinois Veteran Burials is listed an Ambrose B. MEWMAN. He is buried in the
Oblong Cemetery. I believe he is the son of George MUMAW (It is spelled numerous ways) if he is the one he was born
in Shenandoah Co. Virginia in about 1842. I would like to hear from anyone who may have information about Ambrose.
Was he married, did he have children, etc.?

by John W. Carter on June 24, 2000
I need information about Isaac FAIL. He was too young to be in the 1820 Crawford County Census. He and a relative,
Cornelius TAYLOR, built the Lawrence County. Illinois Jail in March of 1822. Who was his father? There were two
possibilities in the 1820 Crawford County Census. They were John FAIL, and Joseph FAIL. His father-in law living
nearby was Edmund RATHBONE.
- GAINES, HUBBARD, MCGAUGHEY
posted by Terri McDonald Hauk on June 26, 2000
Elmer Otto MCGAUGHEY, son of Joseph MCGAUGHEY and Anna HUBBARD, b. April 1886, married first Daisey GAINES about 1906. They had 5 daughters: Ethel, 22 Aug 1907 Ruth, 3 Mar 1909 Pauline, 18 Dec 1913 Maryellen, 22 Feb 1916 Maxine, 4 Jan 1928 This family moved from Jasper Co., IL to Crawford Co. but I haven't discerned when. Daisey died in childbirth with Maxine and Elmer married second Mrs. Georgia McKay. Joe worked for the railroad and was killed in an accident when Elmer was a baby. James A. MCGAUGHEY, Elmer's grandfather, took Elmer in and cared for him till he died in April 1903 in Newton, Jasper Co., IL. I believe that Elmer's mother remarried and must have given him up to James. Elmer was also a railroad man, achieving the position of engineer in his early 20's. He died in Palestine, IL on April 10, 1967 at age 81. Any further detailed info on this family would be greatly appreciated!

- SMITH posted by Gary Smith on July 10, 2000
I am looking for information on Marshall, Montgomery and Marion SMITH of Hustonville, IL in the mid-1860s. Marshall
is my ggrandfather. He was born Dec. 21, 1856, I believe somewhere in IN. His father was said to be from NY and his
mother from IN. He and Montgomery were General Baptist Ministers who were to MO in the mid 1880s. In about 1900 Marshall
moved his family to OK where he died June 1, 1929. His son Luther Haratio SMITH is my grandfather. Luther was born in
Taneyville, Taney Co., MO in 1895 and died in 1972. I would really appreciate any help in finding Marshall in IL and his
father and mother's names and their children's names and any other information that someone may have. Thanks in advance
for your help.
- COX, CROUCH, FAITH
posted by Mark Catt on July 10, 2000
I'm trying to find the father of Penny COX, who was married to 1)Jesse CROUCH and 2) Jacob FAITH. I'm hoping
that someone knows something about her sisters Dicey A. COX b.1827 NC, and Mary COX b. 1836, NC or her brother Jesse
B. COX b. 1831, NC. I thought if one of them happened to be married after they started recording fathers' names on the
marriage license, I could track it down that way. Unfortunately, I can't find any record of Dicey, and there are too
many Marys. Jesse married too early to help. So, unless one of them shows up with a later marriage, I'm stuck.
Is anyone out there descended from any of these three?
- FACETT, FAUCETT, JARRETT,
JONES, KUHN, SHEWMON,
WILSON posted by D. JoAnn Johnson on July 13, 2000
Although I am not a direct descandant of John JARRETT who lived in Crawford County, IL and was counted first in
the 1870 census, I have some information others who may be researching the Jarrett name may be interested in. John
JARRETT was born in 1837 in Indiana, served in the Civil War, married in Preble Co., Ohio, Sarah Ann (SHEWMON) KUHN,
a widow with two children, John Franklin KUHN (b. 1852, who was my great-grandfather) and Ella WILSON KUHN. I am
researching the KUHN and SHEWMON name. Sarah Ann died in 1886 in Andrews Co., MO and is buried in the Whitesville
cemetery, Whitesville, MO; as is John JARRETT, who died in 1923. He received a pension for his service in the Civil
War. I have a letter written from Robinson, IL dated February 20, 1880 by Sarah Ann JARRETT to her son in Bond Co.,
IL wherein she describes some of the local events. If others are interested, I will happily share a copy for a Self
Addressed Stamped Envelope. I also have a copy of the will of John JARRETT from Andrews Co., MO as well as his obituary
and the distribution of his estate. He had quite a few siblings. It seems that Ella WILSON KUHN married a JONES (perhaps
in Crawford Co, IL?) and had a daughter named Ethel JONES who married a FAUCETT/FACETT. I am trying to find where and
when Ella married this JONES. John Franklin KUHN left many descendants in Bond Co., IL. If you are interested in any
of the items I mentioned please contact me.

Seeking information on Lucy Ann ROE, born February 29, 1828 in Greene County. Lucy first married on February 22, 1849
to Abraham LEMON in Greene County. It seems Abraham died not long after their marriage. It is possible a son was born to
Abraham and Lucy before his death. Lucy next appears in Crawford County, Illinois where she marries James PRIER on
August 12, 1855. Their daughter Angeline was my great-great-grandmother (via Charles WEIRICH)

Has anyone looked into the possibility that Abel PRIER (b 1801 KY- D. 22 Aug 1874 in Crawford Co., IL) was a nephew
of Nathaniel PRYOR of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Also, There are a John and Samuel PRIER of Henry Co., KY listed
in the 1800 census records. Could either of these leads reveal the origin of Abel PRIER, Crawford Co. citizen and
man of mystery?
