- HOUSTON, MILLER, PORTER
posted by Marian WINTERS on March 7, 1998
I have a marriage certificate for my great grandparents, Thomas Houston PORTER and Mahala MILLER, married March 29, 1870
in Crawford County. Thomas was orphaned at about age 12 and was raised by a Robinson family. I do not know if PORTER was
an adopted name, or his birth name. He died in 1884 when his son, my grandfather was three years old. I wonder if there
are any newspaper articles concerning his marriage or death that would give the names of his birth parents. He was
supposedly born in Shelby County, KY Aug. 15, 1849. Thank you for any help you might be able to offer! I suppose it
could be possible (is this a long shot?) that HOUSTON could have been a surname????

BRADBURY, Jessie and Lottie. My g.grandfather Jesse BRADBURY was a pastor at Grand Prairie Christian Church in Palestine, IL
sometime after 1907. I am seeking any information about him and his family. He was said to have been a lifelong friend of a man
named Ivan PLUNKETT, also from this area. If there are any families who have church history or remembrances of this BRADBURY
family (which would have included at this time a baby son, Orville/Orval BRADBURY) please contact me.

- FOWLER, PAINTER, WELCH,
WELSH posted by Beverly A. Matthews on March 23, 1998
I'm researching the name PAINTER, FOWLER, WELCH or WELSH in Crawford County, Illinois. I have a copy of the
John PAINTER-Mary E. FOWLER marriage of March 1859. I'm looking for, maybe, a death of a FOWLER in or around Crawford
County, Illinois about mid to late 1858. Or it could be a wife of John PAINTER. I have a daughter of this family,
Martha Caroline, born in 1854, with the proven facts. I haven't been able to establish the relationship of John PAINTER
with the Crawford County, Jonas PAINTER born (1770-1780) or Benjamin PAINTER born 1801 in Ohio. My information does not
connect to their families, so far anyway. Could there be an Obituary on Jonas PAINTER in Crawford County. I have another
given name as John PAINTER's Father. Mary E also gave her parents birth place in Ohio not Kentucky as the William FOWLER
family group of Crawford County, Illinois.
